Cornerback Cortland Finnegan feels leaving Tennessee Titans in foreseeable future-NFL News
It might be difficult for cornerback, Cortland Finnegan, to come to the realisation that his career with the Tennessee Titans is over yet it remains the certain reality clouding the future of the player.
Finnegan has not been assigned the franchise tag by the management. Now with the tag deadline is already over, there is no surety either if they will look to sign him off the free agency when it starts on March 13, 2012.
Amid the uncertainty, the player has sensed that his career at Titans could be over in the foreseeable future.
The development has brought sheer disappointment to the player as he had remained optimistic about winning a new deal from the team.
He said:
"It is bittersweet. For six years I played in the Titans organization. I am grateful and humbled that the Titans took a chance on me and the way they matured me over the years.”
Finnegan added:
"But they wanted to move on. I don't know why, and I don't know what else a guy could do career-wise and in the community. But that's part of the business, and you have to move on."
Some reports emerging earlier had laid the claims that the player was demanding a deal from the team similar to the one Johnathan Joseph had landed with the Houston Texans during 2011 offseason.
He apparently has not heard from the management if they are going to work out something similar or will release him after the trade deadline of March 13.
Since there is no official confirmation in favour or denial from the team, the player finds it difficult to measure and describe the exact situation at the moment.
Meanwhile, his agent, Terry Watson, is hopeful of exploring an opportunity with another team from the league and believes that the cornerback will be a hot pursuit on the free agency.
He said he intends to talk to quite a few teams during the free agency and is hopeful for fetching a better deal for his client.
Watson said:
"I think Cortland could be one of the hottest free agents out there on the market, and I am eager to talk to teams once free agency starts."
Finnegan joined Tennessee Titans as the seventh-round pick in 2006 and has consistently been representing the side in the National Football League (NFL) since then.
He has been playing as a starter since 2007, and has remained successful in the majority of starts he made for the side during the period.
The player has developed a reputation of playing dangerously over the past few years and was fined $25,000 for his involvement in a fight with Houston Texans’ wide receiver, Andre Johnson, in 2010.
