Cornerback Terrell Thomas gets green signal for New York Giants training camp – NFL News
New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas says that he is declared fit by the medical staff of New York Giants for training camp.
He wrote on his official website:
“I just left the doctor’s office; I am all cleared for camp. I have no limitations entering camp; obviously they will be monitoring me throughout camp. It will be in the hands of Ronnie Barnes who has been protecting me thus far. I just want to thank
the Giants organization, Dr. Arthur Ting, John Meyer, my agent, my family and everyone who got me to this point.”
He has been out of field for the last 11 months after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a preseason game against Chicago Bears in 2011.
Talking to the NFL Network in June, Thomas said that he expected to be the starting cornerback in the 2012 season. Thomas said:
"I've said I'm the starter, and they brought me back to be the starter, and that is the mindset I have.”
Giants selected Thomas in the second round of the 2008 draft. He has played a total of 44 games in three seasons.
After departure of Aaron Ross to Jacksonville Jaguars, Giants’ only other option for the starting corner back is Prince Amukamara.
Amukamara himself spent most of his rookie season out of the field with a foot injury and his lack of experience has made Thomas favourite to get the starting spot when Giants enter the field this season to defend their title.
Yet it will be interesting to see how much the injury has affected his game. He will have to work really hard during training camp in order to get his form back. He said:
“The road just started; I have a lot of work to do.”
In the 2010 season, Thomas got 101 tackles and five interceptions, as many analysts believed that he should have got the Pro Bowl for his effort. He was an elite cornerback that season.
His teammate Justin Tuck said that Thomas was set to give a Pro Bowl receiving performance in the 2011 season before he got injured.
