Cornet/Parmentier tear down Yates/Falconi in 1st Round – Texas Open 2011
The French duo of Alize Cornet/Pauline Parmentier teamed up to win their opening match at the Texas Open 2011 against Story Tweedie Yates/Irina Falconi in straight sets of 7-5, 6-2 at the Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas.
Yates/Falconi won the pitch and smashed zero aces opening the set and with geometric precision struck zero double faults and lost no points, while Cornet/Parmentier had struck one double fault but also smashed an ace.
Cornet/Parmentier have played numerous matches side by side against other top players and surprisingly have won many matches prior to this event. They won 65% of their total service points because of a good coordination and a powerful
serve, along with, attaining 16 out of 36 points in their return points, making it an average 44% win in total return points.
On the contrary, the American and Ecuadorian duo managed to attain 12 out of 34 points, hence achieving a pitiable 35% their return but managed to secure an above average 56% in their service points. They lost most of their points
because of a poor first and second return. In the serve they lost points because of an average service game, especially in the first.
The French team was able to save 75% of their break points and was able to capitalize on 40% of their break points won, hence, broke their opponent’s serve twice against Yates/Falconi, who were only able to save 60% of their break
points but only broke their opponent’s serve once.
Making it an above average 56% win in the total set points, they won the set with 6 more points than their American and Ecuadorian opposition.
The French pair was leading by a few games in the second set and wanted to keep the tone set as they were not to give up now.
Although, the American and Ecuadorian duo got off to a great start, they were treading on dangerous waters of losing the set as they committed one double fault and were unable to win a break point, denying the competitive edge
that they required so badly.
Cornet/Parmentier had strong ground strokes and played at the baseline which enabled to them to win a walloping 73% of their total service points and attained 13 out of 27 points in their total return points in the set.
Mean while, because of a poor return that won Yates/Falconi 6 out of 27 points, making it a pathetic 27% win of their total return points, were unable to score.
The French couple accomplished 59% win in the total set points and were able to secure a place in the second round by achieving 9 more points that the opposition.
