  1. Yep. It IS working. We're a clever lot here in Cornwall!!!!

Edit..... Michael W. I don't know how long it's been sinse you last lived in Cornwall, but the kids there are no better than anywhere else in Britain. (I should know as I lived in Birmingham too!!) Cornish housing estates are even more deprived than the rest of the Country, and alcohol, and drug abuse amonst teenagers is ruining Cornwall. They are NOW calling Newquay the Benidorm of England, and it's not much better when the holidaymakers go home, as most of the locals are more of a problem.

  2. Well I'm Cornish and agree with this. 16 was a long time ago. I seem to remember that I had to be back home before 9. It was just an accepted part of being >16. I would watch Bergerac or the Professionals and than go to bed!

The majority of young people today do respect the wishes of their parents.Unfortunately, there are some parents today who just don't give a $hit and have no control over their offspring.

Some people will say 'It's another example of our liberties being eroded'. But do they really want to see gangs of 12-16 year olds roaming the streets at 11pm!!!!!! If they do then they are the parents or future parents that I'm talking about above.

  3. It's working so i think it should be extended all over the country. The parents have now had to accept responsibility for their children and not let them do as they please.

  4. Yes I agree with Cornwall, all under 16s should be in bed by 9pm and not allowed to wander about making michief.

There has been an under 16s curfew in Germany for many decades.  At least it was the case when I was stationed there with the British Army from 1962-1965.

Yes an under 16s 9pm curfew is an excellent idea and yes it will work elsewhere.

    How?

Any under 16 year old child found on the streets by the fuzz patrol is returned home and the parents, if they are in, must pay an on-the spot fine.  If the parents are not at home, the kid spends time in the cells until parents can be contacted etc.

Time to sort this out and break up these street gangs of young thugs.

One here in London aged 13 had a pistol and ammo in his house. Wonder what he was planning?

People who think under age kids on the street unsupervised are okay, are not living in the real world.

Wake up England before it's too late.

Do something and do it now.

  5. Shame they could not extend it to the entire country.

  6. Excellent idea, personally I would have made it 6pm but at least 9pm is a move in the right direction.

  7. when i was around 14 years old i lived in an area that wasnt very nice and would never go out on my own, my area did a trial run for 1 month where all under 16's were picked up by the police if they were out after 8pm in groups of 3 or more, they were taken to the police station and there parents had to pick them up. It worked really well, the streets were really quiet for once but unfortunatly the council were not willing to keep putting the money in.

  8. brilliant idea, if only it was universal.

  9. I don't see why children under the age of 16 need to be out alone after 9pm anyway. If they have to be somewhere, a club or something, why can't their parents get up off their lazy butts and pick them up. They have from getting home from school until 9 to play out, they don't need to be out after this time, it is usually dark anyway. I would not have allowed my children to be out then. The only time they were was when I picked them up from band or soccer practise.

  10. nope

    im 14

maybe some days but when your with your friends

9pm is kinda early make it 10:oo at least

    =]

  11. I think any parent who lets their under 16 year old out past seven alone should be had up these people are still children they are still learning about life as grown up as they think they are they still need guidance and parents and community's alike need to take this challenge head on.

  12. Its a great idea.

  13. Nope. More of peoples freedoms being taken away again.

  14. Parents should not have to be made do this. They should know themselves.

  15. brilliant idea - should be law right across the country

  16. We have someting like this in part of nottingham, and it has brought crime rates down drastically, I suppose if you're not causing the trouble then it would'nt be fair

  17. Having lived in Cornwall for a number of years I would have said the kids there are on the whole well behaved compared to their counterparts in the bigger cities like Manchester and Birmingham. Yes it should be a national blanket curfew for all kids under 16 and parents fined heavily for children caught breaking the curfew. Parents must learn to keep their children under control

  18. i live in the next town to where this is happening,,,its working and even parents who originally were objecting on grounds of-"don't tell me how to parent!", "civil liberties!" are now saying they think its a good idea, they are having much less trips to the police station to pick up their kids and its making them spend more time together as a family. the local residents are saying they are sleeping better.

the kids who are good are fine about it, the little horrors are still saying " cant make me! its voluntary!" but because most of the other kids have gone home they are left on their own with no one to show off too.     yes i think parents should be doing this anyway but some parents are a bit irresponsible, mainly because they did not have good parents them selves.  the police say its working, and whats really important is that the kids are safer!
