My school history is one of which "licks" was used as punishment.

Mucurapo Girls - they either hit you with those wooden rulers or put you in the courtyard in the hot sun! White shoes not clean? then its in front the assembly for all to see (embaressment make you do things right)

Mucurapo Junior Sec - Our Dean Mr. Porter had creative ways in distributing licks - literally is cut **** infront the assembly for wrong doers (more than yuh father can give you)

The with the onslaught of Play Whe - if yuh come late whatever numbre call for the afternoon - is the number of licks yuh getting! Then it was requested that licks be erradicated from schools (poor Mr. Porter, its what he did best - and it worked too) Now he devised a sinister plans such as:

1. Picking up garbage in the huge field and hall

2. Emptying garbage from each class room (oh the embaressment)

3. Running laps across the field (sweating up yuhself)

4. Doing push-ups or squats! (I never came late after that)

  1. h**l yes. I get licks and ah still living and straight as ever.

  2. i don't agree to corporal punishment but the kids of trinidad yeah it may or may not do them good it the parents have a big part to play in the choices their kids make the friends they choose to hang out with and disrespecting everyone around them it the parents fault so yes maybe a little spanking will do them good but then again it also makes them go against making the right choices and think to themselves if they're gonna be spanked either way why do the right thing for the kids it's easier to go the wrong direction and that is what they need more than anything else DIRECTION and love someone to go to just to talk and see hands on the consequences others have to suffer learn from other peoples mistakes

  3. I don't think corporal punishment would work today. I think it is SERIOUSLY needed. Too many children getting away with anything in school.

Could you imagine Mr Teacher calling some 15 year old 'man' in a Sr Sec to buss he behind for missing 3 of his classes? And in front the class? no way he taking that today. In my mother's time that was a given.

In today's time in Trinidad the youths will stand up to the teacher; they will wait for his @$$ in the parking lot or mess up he tires. If he get talked to too loud he will bring he modder to deal with he.

My point is that for too long discipline was not administered in school and therefore to try to bring it back now will be a real hard task for any principal or dean. My mom had a Dean of Discipline in school. She say Class Prefects had authority and house leader was under "Miss or Sir". try that today nuh? PREfeck? Yeah! Right!!

  4. I am all for it. I grew up in the era where "Sir" or "Miss" were second to your parents and students actually stood to their feet when a teacher entered the classroom.

Children today lack the restraining fear that used to be the norm.  I say a little cut tail might bring that back quickly.

    Buss dem up!

  5. More now than ever before! I'm sick of how Americanized our country is becoming and some schools now insist on counseling and psych evaluations when all the kid needs is a good cut **** like we used to get. My parents did what they had to do and I certainly have not turned into a demented, insecure, murderous basket case.

  6. this is something we grew up with, we understand how it works, and knows that it does not psychologically harm the child.   When a child does not learn that there is consequences for every action that he does, den he continues to do the wrong thing.

I get licks in primary school, even in standard 5, or was punishment in we behind...

I remember in form one our English teacher make the entire class kneel down 2:20 in d evening - school overing 2:30pm ... by 2:35 the ENTIRE school population was outside d class room to see us kneeling down.

because we couldnt remember the present tense of the verb 'to be'.  lets just say that i dont ever forget it now. lol

I was in upper six and see d dean give ah boy ah serious caneing in the staff room.

but my point is corporal punishment or punishment on the whole worked for us and we grew up to be productive individuals, what makes the children of today soo different.

  7. Them children need licks in they @$$ today.  I get it, meh mother and father get it, so ah little lash now and then wouldn't hurt.

    I for it still...

  8. It is needed and should never have been removed in the first place. There is too much going on right now in the schools and it seems the teachers have no choice but to throw their hand in the air. But the sad thing is that the few who try in their own way to discipline their students, the parents come in the school to "beat the teacher".

I say BRING BACK CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS NOW!!!!!
