Question:

Corporate Credit Card - Expense Reimbursement?

I was let go from a previous employer but had about $800 in unreimbursed business expenses on a corporate credit card. Since the card is in my name I am legally responsible (i.e. my credit record is impacted by unpaid balances). All of the charges are reimbursable per the company policy, and the HR contacts I have spoken to agree with me. However it has been two months and my corporate credit card still shows an open balance. I have a new job and want to move on. What rights do I have; can I pay the balance and bring them to small claims court?

  1. Send them a letter threatening to take legal action if they fail to pay. Try to get your HR contacts to agree with you in writing that they owe you this money.

You might also want to check your state's employment services site to file a claim against them for unpaid expenses/reimbursement. The advantage to this option, if your state allows it, is that you aren't going to pay for the state's investigator to dive in and start demanding stuff.
