Did I use than correctly?

I thought Pineapple Express was pretty good, nowhere near the level of Grandma's Boy or 40 Year old Virgin, but still a solid 3.5/4.

Response:

If pineapple express was a 3.5/4 than you think 40 year old virgin is a perfect score?

  1. when u compare one thing to other...we use "than" and when one thing happen in accordance with other...we use "then". In your case, "Then" is the right option coz we are not comparing.

  2. No, than: 1 a—used as a function word to indicate the second member or the member taken as the point of departure in a comparison expressive of inequality ; used with comparative adjectives and comparative adverbs <older than I am><easier said than done> b—used as a function word to indicate difference of kind, manner, or identity ; used especially with some adjectives and adverbs that express diversity <anywhere else than at home>

2: rather than —usually used only after prefer, preferable, and preferably

    3: other than

4: when 1b —used especially after scarcely and hardly

    then:

    : at that time

2 a: soon after that : next in order of time <walked to the door, then turned> b: following next after in order of position, narration, or enumeration : being next in a series <first came the clowns, then came the elephants> c: in addition : besides <then there is the interest to be paid>

3 a (1): in that case <take it, then, if you want it so much> (2)—used after but to qualify or offset a preceding statement <she lost the race, but then she never really expected to win> b: according to that : as may be inferred <your mind is made up, then> c: as it appears : by way of summing up <the cause of the accident, then, is established> d: as a necessary consequence <if the angles are equal, then the complements are equal>

    — and then some : with much more in addition <would require all his strength and then some>

  3. no. the correct word would be then. than could be used if you said "i liked the 40 year old virgin more than i liked pineapple express."

  4. Not correct for than it should be then.  If always is used with then in a statement.  If .....then....will happen.  Than is a quantity when used in a statement.  Something is more than...or I need more than you to win etc.  So, if I stay up too late then I will be tired tomorrow.  And, I need more sleep than most to be awake tomorrow.  Some examples

  5. No. You need to use the word THEN where you've used than.

  6. No  the word you need is "then". The word you used is for comparison e.g. "Cake is better than pie." (I like pie better.)
