Most of the time I eat at home. But have wanted to go out and eat a very nice sushi bar near my house..

The Sushi they serve there is sort of big. I want to know the proper way to eat it.

If I just stuff the whole thing in my mouth I will look like a pig and I have never seen anyone cut sushi in half and eat with a fork.

What do I do.. ?

  2. They're mainly 3 types of sushi:

    1.  Temaki - Better known as hand rolls, that resemble an ice cream cone.  Most likely this might require couple of bites, usually held in hand and once again eaten like an ice cream cone.

    2.  Nigiri - Finger Sushi.  Any selection of fresh fish or seafood sliced and placed on a rice morsal.  This type of sushi usually is eaten in one bite.

    3.  Maki - Cut Roll.  Now there is Futomaki (Thick Roll) and Hosomaki (Small Roll).  Futomaki has a variety of ingredients included, therefore the roll tends to be a bit bigger.  Hosomaki usually have one or two ingredients and can be contained in one bite.  Unlike most authentic sushi bars, you have the americanized version.  With that said, their chefs tends to prepare their sushi bigger in size, because lack of proper training.  Keep in mind, Japan cuisine is suppose to be simple, small, great variety, but yet elegant.  Hope this help.

  3. you could bite in half first - but you would have to make sure the thing didn't fall apart afterwards.
