Americans world over seem to be overjoyed in the matter that has come to the media that Qatar allegedly had some ill-doing with their FIFA host nation win.
On 2 December, FIFA held a vote for the 2018 and the 2022 World cup host nations and the results made Russia the winners for the 2018 World Cup and Qatar the winner of the 2022 World Cup.
Qatar won the spot over the United States even though most pundits had confirmed it that the United States would win the second tally.
Obviously, the reaction of most Americans was of shock and then later anger. They failed to understand that how a nation that is smaller than one of their states could manage to win the hosting spot over them.
The first allegation has come up as predicted and it comments of the most obvious matter – Corruption in the voters.
Even Qatar getting the host spot was a bit of a shocker as Qatar is a small country which will have to make gigantic changes to infrastructure just so it would be possible for them to host such an event.
First thing that comes to mind is that this Middle Eastern nation would have to build and increase the size of their airports to roads to hotels ten folds!
Also another factor that was thought to be one of the biggest factors against Qatar was the local climate as the temperature have been known to go up to a hundred and twenty degrees Fahrenheit (48 degrees Celsius) in the summers.
The allegations were recently brought forward to the media and they include the Qatar Football Federation paying a figure around 78 million dollars to the Argentinean Football association just so they would give Qatar the vote for the 2022 World Cup.
Julio Grondona is the man from the Argentinean football association who voted in support of Qatar.
Another saddening matter is that Qatar also paid two other FIFA members who were a part of the executive committee to elect the host nations a sum of 1.5 million dollars each.
England is also annoyed at the outcome as they were promised seven votes while they only got two in the end. FIFA would have to investigate these claims and if they turn out to be true then the validity of the whole executive committee would come into question.
One thing is clear that Qatar does have more than enough financial means to make this event possible but if the validity of the executive committee comes into question then the host nation’s vote tally may even come into question.
