Had car for 2 years .... no prob....today whilst out stopped to give way & now car wont come out of the gear its in ( think its 3rd) Clutch feels the same as usual, but gear stick feels ' un attached' to whatever it should be and just moves loosesly around without engaging anything. Managed to drive home at about 40-45 mph & drives fine -no weird noises or anything ...just cant get any gears. Will need to take to garage tomorrow but would like an idae of whats wrong b4 they try & bamboozle me. Any idea whats wrong & hint at cost? Thanks

  1. vauxhall do a modified gearlinkage to replace the old style one which fail regularly they are about £70 plus under an hours labour to fit. If the bill is over £160 your being taken for a ride

  2. Corsa's are prone to gear linkage problems, the part is around £60 but to have a vauxhall main dealership fix it will cost around £150 with the labour

  3. Gearlinkage on the Corsa is a bit prone to failure and it sounds like this is the case

You could find the offending link that may have come off and just put it back on but more likely you will have to replace the linkage assembly.

I have had to fit many of these in my garage and most times it is a new one

Local garage should be able to do this for you.  No need for the costly main dealer here.  Not sure on the assembly cost but about 1hr labour and maybe 60 to 70 for the part but might be wrong by miles.  Phone Vauxhal stores for the part price before you set out tomorrow

    Good luck

  4. Just the linkage disconnected - probably half an hour & around £40 all in, I would have thought.
