Why is Corsica still under French rule?

  1. Yes Corsica is part of the French republic.

    Ajaccio is as French as Paris. Same rules, same laws.


  2. Although Corsica is French, this island has special rights if I could say so.

    For instance should a new job be offered, it should be given first to the locals.

    The problem is that a minority is fighting and bombimg government office. But we don't know if the population really want to be independant. They would have more to lose than to earn. The island highly depends on French funds. It's economy is quite limited.

    So getting the independance could sign the end for them.

    I don't think that the people wearing balaclavas and hurling debris at the CRS last weekend would agree with you that Ajaccio is as French as Paris.

    Corsica is still fighting for independence and people die every year in the struggle for independence. I don't have a particular opinion on whether or not it would be a good thing nowadays but to suggest that Corsica is happily under French rule is incorrect. There are huge issues with independence there.
