Cortes Gomez wins Women’s 200m IM crown: 2011 FINA World Junior Championships - Day four
Cortes Gomes of Spain and the squad of Canada produced a mouth shattering splash on day four of the 2011 World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, on Friday, August 19. The final session of the meet conducted the Women’s 200m Individual Medley and Men’s
4x200m freestyle relay events.
In the Women’s 200m IM final heat, Gomes snared the golden crown on the podium by posting a stunning time of 2 minutes and 13.57 seconds. Meanwhile, Emu Higuchi of Japan took home the silver medal in the platform by submitting an impressive time of 2 minutes
and 13.96 seconds and Hodgson Seltenreich of Canada snagged the bronze medal on the podium by posting a matchless time of 2 minutes and 15.62 seconds.
Lisa Zaiser of Australia earned fourth place honours in a time of 2 minutes and 16.35 seconds, while Taylor McKeown of Australia wound up fifth in 2 minutes and 16.53 seconds. Allison Brown of United States of America finished sixth in a time of 2 minutes
and 16.72 seconds. In the corresponding meet, Alessia Polieri of Italy finished seventh in a time of 2 minutes and 17.37 seconds and Anastasia Sineva of Russia was placed eighth in 2 minutes and 17.38 seconds.
In the meantime, the Men’s 4x200m freestyle relay crown was taken over by Canada’s squad of Alec Page, Keegan Zanatta, Omar Arafa and Chad Bobrosky with a winning time of 7 minutes and 22.95 seconds. China’s quartet of Yinghua Qiu, Wenjie Pu, Xiang Li and
Feilian Mao earned silver medal on the podium by posting a stunning time of 7 minutes and 23.28 seconds, while Poland’s team of Pawel Werner, Filip Bujoczek, Michal Poprawa and Radoslaw Bor snared the bronze medal on the podium by submitting an impressive
time of 7 minutes and 24.09 seconds.
In the corresponding race, United States wound up fourth with a mark of 7 minutes and 24.18 seconds and Italy was placed fifth in a time of 7 minutes and 25.09 seconds. Russia was placed sixth with a time of 7 minutes and 27.02 seconds, while Brazil earned
seventh place honours with a time of 7 minutes and 30.67 seconds. Great Britain settled eighth in the respective meet in 7 minutes and 32.26 seconds.
