Cortland Finnegan hopes to impress St. Louis Rams – NFL News
A day after officially signing a five-year contract with St. Louis Rams, cornerback, Cortland Finnegan, has vowed to impress the organisation with his performance and play an essential role in taking the team to new winning heights.
Ironically, Finnegan does not have a very good reputation when it comes to performing on the field. His aggressive nature is questioned by many observers, while he is also not ranked among the league’s best cornerbacks.
However, Rams managed to see the other side of the picture as they hired him. Finnegan has played under Jeff Fisher when both were a part of Tennessee Titans.
Finnegan’s appointment in the new team has come as a result of Fisher’s trust in the player’s skills and abilities – something which the player is also proud of.
Finnegan is of the view that he has got a different playing style and said that he could utilise it to his advantage. He said:
“I’m standing over it [edge], looking over it. Never stepping over it, never want to hurt the football team. That’s something that I can continue to do is just play with that edginess. I think that’s part of my game, but also play with a smart side as well.”
Rams were miserable during the last National Football League (NFL) season and ended the regular season after winning just two games. They lost 14 games and were placed at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) West division.
Following the failure, the head coach and general manager were fired and subsequently, Fisher was appointed as the new head coach while Les Snead took charge of the post of general manager.
While commenting on Finnegan’s appointment, Snead said that the player could play an important role in revamping the team’s image.
Snead considers Finnegan a building block of the organisation. He said:
“What he’s also going to do is because of his leadership skills, because of what he brings to the field, he’s going to help us develop the young players we bring in and develop those players to be the type of players we want them to be.”
Finnegan started his professional NFL career with Titans in 2006. After playing for six seasons, it is his first move to any other team.
