Cory Chitwood and Margo Geer excel in swimming events: Day three – 2011 Texas Invitational
Cory Chitwood and Margo Geer of Arizona stunned the arena by excelling in their events of Men’s 200 yard back-stroke and Women’s 100 yard freestyle respectively on the final day of the 2011 Texas Invitational on Saturday, December 3rd.
The meet was held at the Longhorn Aquatics at University of Texas in Austin. The session ended after the finals of 200 yard back-stroke and 100 yard freestyle in Men’s and Women’s category.
Chitwood demonstrated his exhausting efforts in the final of Men’s back-stroke discipline. With his relentless efforts, he remained considerably ahead of his opponents throughout the event and improved the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
mark of 1 minute and 41.53 seconds.
He won gold medal of the event by submitting an astounding time of 1 minute and 38.85 seconds, which was almost three seconds under the NCAA mark. He was trailed by his following swimmer, Alex Lendrum of USC, who failed to surpass him on the finishing wall.
Lendrum remained 1.97 seconds slower than his former finisher and hit the finishing wall with a wonderful timing of 1 minute and 40.82 seconds for silver medal. He was chased by Chitwood’s team-member, Michael Sheppard, who remained 0.69 seconds slower than
the silver medallist and ended his swim in a third fastest timing of 1 minute and 41.51 seconds.
Next was the Women’s 100 yard freestyle, where the crowd witnessed a laudable effort of Geer, who proved her mettle for the title of the event. With her irresistible efforts throughout the freestyle event, Geer lowered the NCAA mark of 47.84 seconds by clocking
a wonderful time of 47.76 seconds.
She was followed by Karlee Bispo of Texas, who remained just 0.16 seconds slower than her former swimmer and produced a nice time of 47.92 seconds for silver medal. The silver medallist remained 0.58 seconds ahead of her closest competitor, Maddy Schaefer
of Stanford, who reached the podium for bronze medal by reporting a time of 48.50 seconds for bronze medal.
After few moments, Vladimir Morozov of USC clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100 yard freestyle event by producing a time of 42.32 seconds. He remained only 0.17 seconds ahead of his strongest rival, James Feigen of Texas, who completed his swim in a time
of 42.49 seconds for silver medal.
Feigen was trailed by Morozov’s team-mate, Dimitri Colupaev, who was nearly one second slower than his preceding swimmer and hit the wall with a third fastest timing of 43.35 seconds.
The crowd applauded for ruthless efforts of all participants in their respective events. Furthermore, the session completed after the conclusion of all listed events while the winners collected their accolades at the medal ceremony of the championship.
