Cory Luebke sparks as San Diego Padres defeat Colorado Rockies 8-2 - MLB Update

San Diego Padres’ starting pitcher, Cory Luebke had a tremendous day with the ball as he pitched seven innings and struck-out nine batters with an ERA of 3.23 in the Padres’ 8-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Colorado on September 19.
The batters failed to show their classy performance in the first inning as Padres’ short-stop Jason Bartlett flied out, Cameron Maybin struck-out and Nick Hundley ground out without scoring any run. Similarly, Dexter Fowler walked at the bottom of the first
inning but Eric Young Jr. fouled out to right-field and Jason Giambi struck-out without contributing even a single run for the Rockies.
Padres scored one run during second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Kyle Blanks posted the first run for San Diego when Jeremy Hermida drove a single-run shot towards centre-field and Orlando Hudson moved to second base. In the third inning, Padres’ batters contributed
two runs to raise their lead 3-0. Maybin posted one run when Bartlett bunted a single-run drive towards left-field.
Later, Bartlett advanced to second base on the throwing error of Rockies’ left-fielder Young Jr. The second run was taken by Hundley when Blanks hit a single-run drive to left-field. Blanks occupied second base to end the third inning. The batters smashed
four runs for the Padres during the fourth to get a 7-0 lead. Aaron Cunningham struck a two-run homer (459 feet) towards left-field and Hermida scored a single run.
Maybin also hit a two-run homer (383 feet) to right-field and Luebke posted one run to lift the momentum of Padres. The pitchers were on top in the fifth inning as they did not surrender even a single run. Jordan Pacheco walked at the bottom of the fifth
inning but Thomas Field and Wilin Rosario both flied out without scoring any run.
Luebke gave away three walks, two runs, one hit, one home-run and two earned runs on his 119 pitches. Padres continued to raise their lead in the sixth inning while Colorado also scored a couple of runs to reduce their lead 8-2 at the bottom of sixth inning.
Bartlett hit a sacrifice fly to right-field and Maybin contributed one run. Conversely, Mark Ellis hit a two-run homer (430 feet) towards centre-field and Young Jr. added the final run.
Consequently, Padres led off the three-game series 1-0 against the Rockies at Colorado.
