Cory Spinks: I will definitely avenge my prior knockout loss to Cornelius Bundrage – Boxing News
Cory Spinks, the former IBF light middleweight champion, has said that he was sick and did not undergo appropriate training for his last clash with Cornelius Bundrage, adding that he has a gift of fighting and will do anything in order to avenge prior loss
to current champion Bundrage.
Spinks recently shared his thoughts after a media workout and vowed that this time he will not allow Cornelius to knock him out. The duo is scheduled to headline Showtime’s weekly Saturday night boxing show which will be televised live on June 30, 2012.
The extravaganza will be co-headlined by the non-title featherweight bout between Gary Russell Jr and Christopher Perez. Cory and Cornelius share quite an exciting history and are currently being dubbed as arch rivals.
It was Cornelius who dethroned Spinks in August 2010 from his IBF light middleweight reign via fifth round technical knockout. After that humiliating loss, Spinks came under the line of fire but after explaining the truth about not being able to get ready,
the Missouri proud took a sigh of relief.
Since then, Cory has nailed Shakir Ashanti and Sechew Powell - two respectable names in order to generate a two-bout win streak.
Spinks also said that he does not care about who his opponent is as he just wants to brawl for the titles adding that he will take on any man who has a title round his waist.
The former IBF champion further remarked that he has this unique gift of being a natural born pugilist adding that he did not undergo any boxing lessons to learn the sport unlike others.
Cory, also known as ‘Next Generation’, stated “The first time, I didn’t train properly. I was sick. I had no mechanics. I don’t care who you are, if you aren’t right mentally and physically, you’re not going to be able to do anything. I want to fight for
titles. It doesn’t matter who it is. K-9 is still there on top, so he’s got to get it. I’m ready. I’ve been blessed with a gift. I didn’t have to learn how to box. I always could and I could fight anyway I wanted. I will do anything I have to [in order] to
win this fight.”
Cornelius, Cory’s Saturday night opponent, has been in a total of 36 bouts, boasting 31 wins with 18 via knockout. Cory has enough reasons to put forth an explosive showdown as he direly wants to avenge his loss to Bundrage.
The duo will meet at the ring set up at Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, United States and the event is being promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions.
