Question:

Cosmetic Plastic Surgical Procedures?

by  |  earlier

I would seriously like information on how to be considered for pro-bono cosmetic plastic surgery.

Is there such a thing?

To obtain cosmetic plastic surgical procedures, free of charge?

Couldn't a medical student use a few people to use to practice on that want or need to have a little work done?

Please HELP!

  1. No medical student in their right mind would attempt to do real cosmetic surgery (you need a medical license).  Cosmetic surgery requires extensive post graduate training and, yes, there are Plastic/cosmetic surgeons who do volunteer work, but you'd have to contact a local center or Surgeon to see if s/he'd be amenable to that.  You DON'T want a med student doing cosmetic surgery on you any more than you want a med studing doing a heart transplant on you.

  2. Try the Shriners Hospital.  They do pro bono cosmetic surgery provided you have need.  Meaning you have a congenital defect or injury.

  3. hahahaha

    Try extreme makeover.

Plastic surgeon are not in the habit of giving away their services (especially when you retain the right to sue them if you don't like the outcome).  Many plastics procedures are done in the surgeons' own ORs, so they incur a lot of expenses, and it costs them hundreds and hundreds of dollars per case.

Medical students are not licensed to practice except under the supervision of a licensed physician in the scope of a training program.

There are financing programs available to help you pay for your procedure.
