so i would love to work in cosmetics at Nordstrom. i have 2 years of assistant store manager experience. but in a totally different field of retail. (not cosmetics) but i know how to do makeup. my question is do i need to have some form of cosmetics schooling or training before i should even apply or would they still let me work there and i learn better techniques as i go?

  1. at most counters at nordstrom you don't have to have experience as an artist, your asst. mngr experience might be enough.  just apply.  you may have to start at a smaller or less desirable line but once you're there you can move around.

  2. hi there,

to be 100% honest, makeup counters are now focusing on sales ability more than artistic ability. If you can prove that you have the right personality and can sell then you are already half way there. Go make friends with somebody and see if they know who is hiring. Then go fill out an application and keep popping in every now and then. It also looks like you're a guy ( in your little picture thing).. Again, being honest- guys have a big heads up in this industry. A lot of women are drawn towards having men do their makeup. I've noticed this A LOT
