  1. Well Costa Rica isn't much for history, but if you love nature and the outdoors definitly head for the Osa Peninsula.  Corcavado National Park is absolutely amazing and you get a feeling for the culture there as well.  Lots of places to stay around there.  I stayed at Punta Marenco and enjoyed it greatly.  There are always things to do there (including beaches)

  2. Try Hotel Diria in Tamarindo Beach on the Pacific side of Costa Rica.  Very inexpensive room rates - $50.00 per night and yet it is a First Class Hotel with three huge swimming pools and a fantastic breakfast that is included in with your room.

Check out their web site on the Internet!  Lots of Pics and they indicate a lot of activities in that particular close area!

Not a lot of "History" in Costa Rica as you can tell by their National Museum downtown San Jose!

But San Jose does have the worlds largest Pre-Colombian Jade collection as well as their Gold Museum that are both a Must see while in Costa Rica!

I always go there when I am in CR.

    Good Luck!

  3. History and culture, you will find only in the city area. Of course you see culture all over the country, but museums, etc only in San Jose and surroundings. Costa Rica is a nature country, so when you leave the main area you will have lots of nature (volcanoes, rainforest, cloudforest, etc) and of course beaches. For the best beaches go to the north pacific, there are several bigger all inclusive resorts (Paradisus Playa Conchal, Four Seasons, Allegro Papagayo, Grand Papagayo). Tamarindo Diria is a beach front property, rooms are higher than US$50, but it is nice. Tamarindo is a small fisher town, grown to a touristic place, but not packed yet....I think Manuel ANtonio might be the right place for you, small distinctive hotels with rainforest around and beaches. (check: El Parador, Si Como No, Costa Verde, Casitas Eclipse) for hotels. Good luck.
