First, HD DVD has been discontinued. You may find a few players on liquidation sale, and some stores still have disks but there won't be new ones.

Blu-ray players cost $350 -- $1000 with the better one (PS3) in the $400-$500 range. Sales will see selected Blu-ray disks for $10-$15 or so (in the US) but most sell for $30-$40 (depending where you are and where you buy). On average figure on Blu-ray versions of a movie costing $5 more (new titles) to $25 more (older titles) than the same movie on DVD.
