Question:

Cost of Screen Door?

The screen door to my apartment is in rather bad condition and the screens all have holes in them, so I took the door off and now have it in storage.

But, living on the third floor, it gets STIFLING hot here in the summer, and if I could have the back door open without having bugs get in, or the cats getting out, it would be terrific.

What would be the cost of getting a new screen door? A basic wooden one that I would install myself?

Or would it be more worth it to just buy new screens and put the old door back up?

And please don't say, "This is a job for the landlord", because the landlord is my friend and lets me live here without paying rent, so I don't want to bug him when I need something fixed.

  1. Yup.  A new roll of screening will be less than $10, and take, maybe, 20 minutes to do.

  2. A new Wood Screen Door could cost you between $20 - $75 OR you could have the screen replaced which would probably be the most cost effective (call somewhere for pricing). You could replace it yourself or pay someone. Some Aluminum Screen Doors can cost up to $300.

  3. You should be able to buy replacement screening and the vinyl to hold it in place at your local hardware for less than $10.  They can probably repair the screens for you for not too much more.

  4. new screen doors range from around 50  dollars up to several hundred.  I would just rescreen the old door
