  1. assuming that he is healthy it should cost you about $100 just to get him up to date on all his shots.  if he is sick it could cost up to thousands of dollars.

  2. the stray i took in 3 weeks ago....... cost me a pretty penny. $271 / and still not finished. but unfortunately....... i found an abused kitten and she needed her tail removed because it was damaged so badly.

all vet clinics are different in pricing but my dr charges

$ 20 for the first vaccine

$ 20 for the second vaccine

$ 30 for first office visit

    $12 worm check

    $ ? worm meds (under 20)

    $14 front line flea treatment

$ 38 cat leukemia vaccine ( optional but they always recommend it )

and of course the spaying and nuetering. a bit pricy.

call your local dog warden and ask them of animal clinics in your neighborhood that help out people with pets. these places are out there to help you and make it affordable

  3. All this is standard stuff the local vets can quote you over the phone.  Since each area of the country charges differently, you'll have to find what your local ones are doing.

Checkup here in Milwaukee is $35, the yearly rabies vaccination is $15, the 3 year distemper (3 in one shot) vaccine is $18.  Spaying is $125 but there are low cost vets doing budget work on that too for a lot less.  Neutering is $95.  Those are the bare bones things.

Strays aren't 'free', you'll be putting out for the cost of good food (feeding junk only means you're going to get more vet bills).  No cat is guaranteed to cost just the price of vaccinations  and checkups, we've had plenty of emergencies---

In the past four years with our three guys we've dealt with two snapped fangs from falls or bad jumps, 8 teeth extractions due to bad teeth, a pancreatitis attack, a blocked colon that needed emergency treatment, a case of ringworm, a case of round worm, a scratched cornea, two upper respiratory problems going through the group (antibiotics for everyone), a neutering, a tumor removal off one of the cat's feet that grew very suddenly, the start of kidney disease in one (slow progression fortunately), and an infected side that abscessed after an operation.

Budget $500 a year for vet bills, to be covered in case of emergency,it'll help immensly when you need it, and you'll add to it every year even if it's not touched for a while.

  4. Depending on the age and health of the cat it can be either fairly inexpensive or expensive.  If you take the cat to the vet and they figure out its age they will give it shots accordingly.  When I took my kitten to the vet for her second set of shots it was around $80 not including the visit.  If there is something wrong with the cat.. it has worms, fleas, ticks etc it will cost accordingly but around $80 is what it cost for a set of shots for a cat/kitten. Depending on the age ofcourse.

  5. You may be able to take it to a reduced price clinic that is for lower income pet owners.  Research your area or ask some local vets.

  6. call your vet and schedule an appointment so they can check the cat for health problems and see what shots it needs.

  7. I go to a low cost clinic and for an exam, all shots, and fixed it's around $100, give or take.

call shelters in your area and ask if they have a low cost clinic

  8. It depends. Different places have different prices. Where I live, a shelter will perform a spay/neuter procedure for $25 and administer a rabies vaccination, deworming and topical flea/tick prevention for cats.

Btw, it's very sweet of you to take in a stray kitty.

I wish you the best of luck through all this!
