  1. One reason you don't have a lot of replies yet is because many tourists book their flights to Bangkok and then fly from there to Phuket on separate flights and most of the time on separate airlines.   In Bangkok there are 2 different airports, when or if you book through Bangkok to Phuket make sure you know which airport your flight leaves from.  These airports are not close together.

There are some airlines that do fly direct to Phuket starting from JFK.

    China Airlines is one. (www.china-airlines.com)

Business Class and First Class is pretty expensive no matter who you fly with.

The price of your ticket depends on the day you leave (weekends and holidays are  usually higher priced)  The time of year you fly also affects the price of your ticket.  There is "high season" for some flights.  Flights near Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day are higher priced.  The prices for plane tickets go up when the kids get out of school in June too!  When the kids go back to college the prices usually take a dip down starting in September.

The price of oil has been a great factor in the cost for airfare to Asia - everywhere really!

Only you know the exact dates you will need the flights for and how much you can afford.   Some of the airlines that serve JFK for Asia are Korean Airlines, Asiana, Eva Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Thai Airlines. Find their websites and enter your dates and times required for your trip and a price will come back.

Economy seats are the cheapest.   Since you intend to fly so often make sure you sign up for the frequent flyer programs that the airlines have.  If you fly with the same airline all the time you will accrue lots of miles for free flights in the future.  Also, once you are in "elite" status you will get free upgrades and use of VIP lounges.  Being a loyal customer to the same airline for all of your flights will pay you back.

You can get a lot of information from your local travel agency in town.  The information is free, you can still use the internet to book your own flights if you want.

P.S.  You will be in Thailand for 90 days, have you checked on your visa requirements?   Make sure your passport has at least 6 months left on it from your departure date for flying home.

    Good luck.
