Question:

Cost of elevation certificate?

My bank is asking me to buy flood insurance and when I spoke to the agent she wants an elevation certificate which neither I nor the town office has it. I am now required to pay for it myself.

One company that does it here in the Boston suburbs is quoting $400 for it. How much have you paid for an engineer to come out and do an elevation certificate? I am just hoping to get an idea if this sounds just about right or if he is overcharging me?

  1. I've heard the average is $300-$500 depending on the closest elevation "pin" is in your town.  The farther away, the more it costs.  This is in VT & NH so in MA, especially near the city, sounds reasonable to me.

  2. $400 sounds like a reasonable price.
