Question:

Cost of food in Auckland?

I'm going to Auckland for a holiday and was just wondering how much to budget per day for food?

I'll be staying the city the whole time and will be buying 3 meals a day. Maybe a takeout/food court meal for breakfast and lunch and a cheap restaurant for dinner.

Thanks

  1. G'day Shelly,

Auckland's not too bad for food costs. In particular, the natural, healthy foods are very well priced. Milk, bread, cheese, fruit and veg etc are right.

Stay away from the 'fast' foods if you're on holiday. The cost can add up quickly, and slow down your energy. Go heavy on fruit, a salad sandwich or two that you can make yourself.

If I was doing the Auckland tour thing, I'd do fruit for breaky, or a piece of toast as well, an apple for morning tea, build a salad sandwich for lunch (or buy one already built), bunch of grapes for afternoon tea and for dinner, I'd cook up some lamb chops and a few veg from the local greengrocer.

For the day... Breakfast toast $5, Daily fruit & veg $5, lunch sandwich $6, Dinner chops $5.

That's about $20, and you've had the healthy option into the bargain.

Have a great time in Auckland.

  2. It really depends on how big your appetite is. You can go to most food court places In a mall and have a decent feed for about 8 dollars. You will be full and may have some left over on your plate. I'm talking about Chinese, Indian, subway, fish n  chips etc. For restaurants you will pay a little more but usually can get an (ok/satisfactory)dinner for 10-15 dollars, in my experience. So everything Icluding breakfast, lunch and tea I would say you are looking at about $30 a day. This Is on a tight budget and not Including refreshments such as drinks.

  3. where r u coming from? if u come from the us or places in asia then auckland food is rather expensive. If you want simple takeouts it will be round NZ$6 to round $10. A gd meal usually costs round $15 for lunch $20 for dinner. But it really depends on where u eat. $15 to $20 is moderately gd
