Cost of heating boiler with propane as compared to fuel oil per gallons ?

I do know that fuel oil has more btus per gallon,any heating dealers or fuel distributers out there ???

  1. You should find oil given as 130-140,000 btu per gal and propane from 85-95,000 per gal, about 40% more heat per gal. There are other factors, especially the efficiency of the boiler. Also, propane runs a lot cleaner so maintenance costs are less (slightly).

    I have calculated that the breakeven point is when heating oil is about 30% higher than propane, using the highest efficiency boiler in each class. Again, you will need to run the figures yourself.

  2. You might well find the answers on the web.  You need to know the cost of each fuel in your area and then find the btu's per unit of volume of each and compute the dollars per btu.
