We would like to purchase a house but there is a heating oil tank in the basement. We would like to convert it to a gas heater and are wondering how much would cost to have the tank removed. It is a 250 gal tank and they might have to cut it to get it out.

  1. Whatever you do please make sure the fill and vent pipes are either removed or welded shut so no oil delivery man tries to fill your basement.  It happens.  It should cost a few hundred to have the tank cut up and removed.

  2. You should be able to negotiate a deal with the company who installs your new gas system to remove the tank. We charge $250.00 if it is done at the time of the install. The key is to find an oil company to remove any existing oil.
