Cost of living - Brisbane/Sydney?

Can someone let me know the approximate total monthly expenses for a family (with two kids) renting a three B/R house or townouse, sending kids to a private school, owning one car in

a) Sydney

b) Brisbane ...

( ... if there's a difference between the two)

  1. Wooo tricky one,I'll dip my toe in first here.

    Depends on the school,want a cheap Catholic school,or top Grammer school.Could be up for $20,000 for that.

    Sydney and Brisbane are big places.Rent can go from a few hundred to thousands.

  3. They are pretty much the same in the way of housing as Brisbane is fast becoming popular but Sydney is still the most expensive City to live in here in Australia. Petrol is a bit cheaper and so are groceries. Private schools can vary from school to school starting from around $5,000 to $15,000 per year, depending on the quaility and reputation of the school. I have friends in Brisbane who say it is around 20% cheaper there than Sydney and the weather is better too.
