Question:

Cost of living - Edmonton VS Calgary???

I need urgent help/advice. I have been offered a job in Edmonton and Calgary. Now what is the cost of living between the 2 cities?

If someone is offering a salary of 70k (70,000) for Edmonton, is that good? Single mom with a baby.

How much should I negotiate?

Also if the same company offers me a position in Calgary, then is 70k fine or should I negotiate?

Please, please someone help me. I need to take a fast and well-informed decision.

Thank you.

  1. Both cities are good choices.  Calgary is a bit more white color. Edmonton has a better cultural atmosphere.  Life is a bit slower in Edmonton.  $70 K is a livable wage in either town.  Both cities have a very proud-full heritage.

  2. The cost of living in Edmonton is probably a little cheaper but not by a lot. However, with at $70K salary you will do very well in either city.

Note that Edmonton has a slightly colder winter than Calgary as Edmonton does not get Chinook winds like Calgary gets. However, Edmonton also has a slightly cooler summer as well.

Calgary has somewhat better international flight connections but downtown, the traffic is worse. And I don't like how slow Calgary cycles their traffic lights.

Both cities have great shopping, cultural life and are both good places to raise a child.
