  1. Dublin is one of the most expensive cities in Europe, depending on what study you go by, but it's often said to be second only to London in terms of cost of living.

House prices are high so rental accommodation is also expensive. Cars have a high Vehicle Registration tax. Supermarket shopping is also pretty dear as a lot of stuff tends to be imported and Ireland is an island.. on the plus side gas, electricity, and petrol are more reasonable than some of our European neighbours.

The cost of living really depends on your lifestyle.

  2. Check out movetoireland.com.  They have a lot of info about cost of living and many other issues.  It's worth it to subscribe to the full site if you're serious about moving here.

  3. Since the rule of supply and demand rules everywhere, Dublin is the most expensive in all of Eire. It's the largest city so it all makes sense. I wanted to buy some property in Ireland and found that it is fairly equivenant to the U.S. from one end of the Isle to the other. So are groceries and gasoline. So money-wise you would spend approx. as much there to live as in the U.S.

  4. Dublin is expensive. a really basic house/apartment to rent w/ 2 bedrooms would be about 1000-1300euro/per month on the outskirts of Dublin. You can get a nice studio apartment for about 900euro a month, but its not great for a kid.

you can rent cheaper the further you go from the city, but commuting has its costs too. if you find accomodation in a commuter town, then you're looking at 120-150euro a month for your rail ticket. plus, the journey to the city centre can take up to an hour and a half if you're stuck on the bus, or in the car, from anywhere outside of o'connell street.
