I will be moving to London soon. I will be earning approx. 2000 pounds a month..

If I share a 2 bedroom flat with someone, in a relatively good neighborhood, what should I expect as the lifestlye?

Lets assume I'll cook my dinners :), and go out every friday and saturday...

  1. I live in London on half that income and get by, so I think you'll be just fine. Sharing a two bedroom flat, in a relatively nice area would set you back anywhere between £100 and £150 a week, although that is a very rough estimate as there are plenty of bargains when you look hard, but a massive range in the house quality which makes a lot of different to price.

Again the price of going out varies a lot on what you do, but you can easily find alright pubs where drinks aren't more than £3 each (especially at Samuel Smith pubs), while you can pay an extortionate amount in certain clubs.

Basically, I reckon you won't be able to live a lavish lifestyle, but will easily be able to do what you enjoy, maybe just having to prioritise what is important to you when spending money.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Well it depends on the rent, but to me it sounds like you'll be fine.  In terms of food shopping, there isn't too much difference between London and the national average so you can eat fairly well.

The only thing you will really feel the drain with is the fact that alcohol is a lot more expensive so your nights out will be more expensive.  And if you struggle in a month go out a bit less.

I lived in London on minimum wage and got by fine, went out a few times a month, ate well so I reckon you'll be fine.  Just get yourself an oyster card!
