  1. It's livable, but very tight.  I would suggest another location with a lower cost of living, you don't want to live hand to mouth.

  2. Earning 4000 means taking home 3500, that is not enough for NYC and a tight budget almost anywhere else.   In New York State you would need to be licensed by the State and that is quite difficult.  That is not an occupation that is in high demand in the City either.

  3. The cost of living in New York City is 4 times the average for the rest of the U.S...you would struggle.  Now...Are you a U.K. citizen?  There are soooo many U.K. citizens who want to move to the U.S....most to NYC!  There are literally dozens of questions like yours on Answers every week.  Unless you have a rare, much needed work skill, or an immediate family member to sponsor you, the only way to immigrate to the U.S. is through the diversity lottery program.  AND...the problem is, U.K. citizens cannot even qualify for this program right now as the U.K. is over the quota for this 5 year period.  When they do qualify again, they must register 2 yrs ahead for the lottery , then about one of every 60 is accepted for further consideration.  The whole process takes several years.  It is similarly difficult for an American to immigrate to any E.U. country.   Of course, most Americans who write in here wanting to move to the U.K. want to live in London and have no idea how expensive that is. Most people who want to "move" to another country have no idea of the complexities.  You can research the sites below to read about the diversity lottery program and immigration requirements.  I know this is not the kind of info you hoped to recieve, but it is the reality.  You may want to look into other options...like other E.U. or Commonwealth countries.
