I am returning to Australia after being aboard for 14 years. I have a son who is six. Any one who can direct me on the correct websites to help me out when I first arrive. Example:schools, the job market, also the in and outs on living exspenses. I lived in the inner west of Sydney. Burwood / Concord / Balmian area. I know it has changed alot. Any help would be most welcomed.

  1. Jobs: www.seek.com.au or www.careerone.com.au - both of these have job details and salary expectations along with ads.

    Schools: look at www.det.edu.au.

Just a note though, living expenses in Australia are rising.  Petrol is going up at least 3 cents a litre every week.  Most people can't even afford to buy housing on one salary anymore in Sydney - you won't find anything in Balmain that will get you change of 1 million.  Cheaper alternatives that have improved greatly in 14 years for housing include the Central and South Coast of NSW.

  2. It is very high. Petrol today is AU $1.62 litre.Rental accomadation is very hard to find as mortgage rates have risen putting more people on the rental trail. The suburbs you have chosen are very expensive due to their proximity to the city ,you are probably better off looking further out in the Outer West where rents are a little cheaper and you will be able to train it to work.Current Rental West ranges from $280 to $400. Schools both Private and Public are now everywhere and you just need to check out what suits you.House prices Medium range are about $500000 out west. Job market is pretty good depending on your qualifications. It may sound a little gloomy but you know what we are like we always get there in the end.

  3. being a real estate agent. i would not recommend moving to balmain. prices to high cost of living high, small accomodation, however if your into a trendy lifestyle then its ok. im guessing you need to live close to the city? if not your best to live out furthur west eg Castle hill, close to many schools public and private and 40minutes to the city. cost of living isnt to bad. things that have changed toll prices petrol prices interests rates all gone up. not the best time to buy and good luck finding a rental, there is nothing out there
