Cost of public transportation in D.C.?

I am moving to D.C. and I was wondering if someone can give me an estimated weekly price for using the metrorail/bus if I was to use it to get to and from work everyday. I plan on living around the U Street station and the place where I will be working is a couple of blocks north of the White House.

The cost of a monthly pass should be on their website.  It's pretty cheap I believe.
