Question:

Cost of running of pool pump?

Do I have the math right on the cost for running my pool pump?

The pump is a 1 hp or 0.75 KW pump. Therefore when it runs for 1 hour it should use 0.75 KWh of electricity. My electric bill says I am being charged 5 cents/KWh, therefore cost would be 3.75 cents/hour, or 90 cents/day. This seems cheaper than I expected.... Am I calculating this right?

  1. yes

  2. Yep, your math is fine. You can actually lower that cost a little if you switched the pump to high volt ( sounds strange but it's more energy efficient) if that pump motor comes as dual volt. It'll say on the rating sticker on the motor body if it does support both. Your cost will be to get it wired to high. Ask an electrician if it would be worth it, given the length of cable run.
