I'm just wondering what you think utilities would cost for a townhome (1100sq feet)?

  1. First of all, where do you live?

  2. Rates and climatic conditions vary widely from state to state and region to region. Where would this townhome be located? A town name would be sufficient.

The state of Utah has many climates, and the economic situation can vary widely from city to city, town to tow. However, I will try to give you some very rough estimates.

Heat: Depending on what kind of furnace (gas, oil, electic, heat pump, etc) or heating system you use, and depending on how old and how well insulated this hypothetical townhome is, your heating bills may run between $600-1200 a year in desert areas and $1000-2000 a year in the mountains.

Electricity (apart from heat): This again depends on whether you use gas or electricity for cooking, whether or not you run a washer/dryer and what kind they are and whether or not you run air conditioning in the hotter months. The cost may run between $1000-2000 a year.

Water: If you live in a town/city that provides water, your annual water bill could run between $600-1500. If you get your water from a well system... $0 (assuming your pump doesn't break, your well doesn't run dry and that your septic system doesn't suffer a catastrophic failure).

    Remember, these are rough estimates.

These figures could be reduced somewhat if you have solar panels, wind power or if you live relatively "green" (conserve wherever possible). For example, your water bills would be less if you installed double flush toilets and took "military" showers (less than 5 minutes). Your heating bill might be reduced if you kept the townhome thermostat down at 60 and used an economical space heater in the room you occupy. We keep our house at 68 degrees farenheit in the cold season and find that this really makes a difference.

  3. Hard to say because there are many variables that is needed to calculate it.  Where you live, how cool or hot you keep your place, what type of energy you use (electric, gas), how is the insulation, number of people.

Best way to find out is talk to neighbors and ask them how much they spend during the winter and summer.  They'll have the same rates.  don't forget to ask how hot or cool they keep their place.

  4. Utilities would probably be expensive. 10,000 dollars to 50,000 dollars.
