I just recently got my permit and I'll be taking my drivers test in about seven months. Approximately how much will it be to add me onto a car insurance plan? I'm a good student, I'm female, and I'll be driving my mom's car (I don't have my own :( ). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Also, my mom probably has a near perfect driving record.

  1. Regardless of your situation, it's going to be expensive until you have some experience.  Different companies offer different discounts that vary by state, so your best bet is to get quotes at a variety of companies to compare.

This page offers a helpful comparison of a few major companies, along with a list of specific discounts you may be able to get with them.

One more note - even if the company you use doesn't offer a discount for extra driver's education, it's a worthwhile investment.  You can never be too careful, no matter how good you think you are.

  2. Until you have 3 years of driving experience, it will be expensive. As to exactly how much? Well that depends on the car you will be driving, the coverages that car will have, and where you live.

Here are some common things that can help lower your insurance.

    1. Good student discount- you will need to send in your latest report card or transcript to the insurance company. Typically, they want a B avg or higher.

    2. Drivers Education- This will also lower your insurance. Some insurance companies prefer certain training companies so call your Mom's agent and ask if one is better than another.

    3. Teen Driving programs- These are additional training courses usually sponsored by the insurance company. Yes, you have to pay for them, but the discounts are pretty substantial making it worth your while. It's normally a little online class with a test or two at the end.

  3. There are lots of places where you can get an online quote. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Ins... It only takes 5 minutes to do.

  4. It all depends on your current auto insurance.  If it is combined with home owners as well, then it is cheaper.  If you are a female teenager, then it is cheaper than a male.  My sister has a boy and it went up $500 a year more.  I have a girl and it went up between $200-$300 more.  It all depends on your grades in school too.  They will give a discount if you make B´s and above.  Not a B-.  I believe they give more if it is 4.0.  Check out the popular insurance companies and then look at hometown agents to get a comparison.  Make sure you are comparing apples to apples and not an orange to an apple.  Some insurance companies look at credit history as well.  So driving records may or may not matter.  Good luck and you will get the best price if you check out all of those comparisons.
