Question:

Cost to install HVAC system including ductwork?

Hi, I recently purchased a home and found out that the existing heating and cooling system is not functional. The existing heating is a boiler with radiant heaters in each room but the boiler, pump, and pipes are all cracked (home was not winterized) and needs to be replaced. There was central air but the unit was taken. I don't want to deal with the leaks in the pipes with the boiler and wanted to change to a forced-air system. I was told that the existing ductwork (for the AC) is not sufficient to work with a new system and needs to be replaced. What would be a cost range for installing new ductwork and something like a heat pump that can do both heating and cooling? My house was built in 1959 and is 2-story with about 2500sqft. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Ideally a dedicated unit for both floors of your home would be the best way to heat and cool although more expensive to install.A 3 ton for your downstairs and a 2 and 1/2 for upstairs with new ductwork would be around 15000$.

A 5 ton unit for your home would be a little less costly to install although you may and may not have issues with the upstairs in the summer and the downstairs in the winter.A 5 ton unit with new ductwork would be around 10000$.Good luck.
