I was looking at a 99 chevy malibu and the guy said all it needs is an airbag. He says I can get thepart for about $80 online and then install it easily by "take off 1 bolt put airbag on and tightern it up very easy to do." Is this true Is replacing an air bag this simple and un-costly?

  1. When doing an estimate to replace an airbag, it starts at $1,000 and goes to $1,500.  It's not just the bag, it's the sensors, why it went off in the first place, and the danger.  It's NOT a do it yourself project.

  2.   No. It may also  need a clock spring and sensors and module. It is simple to replace but I would want to know why it needs replaced.

  3. One place you can use to do price checking on car repairs is on Driverside.com – you can drill down to specific cars cause I think the price will change based on the car like your 99 malibu.  They are still in beta but they have a ton of data on what car parts and repairs should cost. I used them for my last repair.
