Costa Rica San Isidro del General - Hotel del Sur info please?

Question

Any one have any info on this town. Any info on Hotel del Sur?

Can't find much on the net. We will have a 4 WD for a week. We will drive down from San Jose........whats the must see......we will stay at Hotel del Sur - beach? mountains? self drive tours? guided tours?....thanks

I'm just curious how you ended up choosing San Isidro del General and Hotel del Sur, especially since you say you could not find much on the net.

San Isidro del General is also known as Perez Zeledon.  (The difference between the two names is technical.)

Hotel del Sur is on the southern end of S I del G not too far from the cattle auctioning location for that whole area.  But not close enough for any of the "smells" to bother you at that hotel.  (Auctions are on Tuesdays and Fridays.)  You will also be very close to a nice US-type shopping mall.  My wife and I stayed at that hotel about 5 years ago and we liked it.  If the hotel has kept up with maintenance, etc., it should be a very nice stay nowadays.

Whenever my wife and I  have guests to CR we like to take them to Cataratas Nauyaca which is between S I del G and Dominical (a beach town).  It's a slow riding horse tour to some beautiful falls.  It costs about $40 and includes a light breakfast and lunch.  Make sure to take swim apparel and camera.  You will need reservations and the tour starts at 7 or 8 AM.

The best places to ask about activities in CR are the car rental locations, your hotels, and people in S I del G.  Dominical is a good place to find out about touristic locations and activities since it is a beach town on the Central Pacific coast and you'll find many "expats" there (which is good or bad depending on how you look at it) and speaking Spanish won't be essential.

I also recommend eating at La Parcela or Villas Rio Mar.  These are both near Dominical.
