I can't make up my mind... Costa Rica for 14 days or trek it along the Mayan route through Guatemala, Mexico, Belize? I am not that experienced of a traveler, and have some apprehensions about Guatemala being unsafe. How do you travel throughout the countries.. do buses stop along all the tourist spots?

  1. Unfortunately, many times  is exaggerated that is said about my country, Guatemala has problems like any other country, but the tourist areas are very safe, Antigua Guatemala, Peten with the Mayan ruins of Tikal, Mirador, ceibal and others,  they are things that it is a whole experience to know, I believe that if you make common sense nothing goana hapen to you, and you will enjoy to stay in my country.

I has been in USA and you know that there are dangerous places, but that doesn't mean that I don't  want to visit cities like New york or miami again.

  2. you should take mayan route you get to see more countries

  3. I've been to all the countries you've listed and I would vote for Costa Rica.

Belize and Guatemala are both very beautiful also, and the people were really nice.  But there is a small amount of political unrest in Guatemala and it's better to be safe than sorry.  If you were a more experienced traveler I'd say its a toss.

Costa Rica is very safe (with the exception of small petty crimes, so leave your valuables at home).  The countryside is beautful, the people are great, and there is much to see and do.  If you are talking about a 14 day bus ride in CR, then I assume they will stop at the tourist spots, because CR isn't that big (about the size of PA).  They have great waterfalls, canapy tours, bird watching, volcanos, and hiking.  I'd check with the tour company you are going with to find out where they will be stopping and what will be included.

Good Luck and have a great time.
