Costa Rica or Guatemala?

Can't decide which of these countries to go to for a 2 week holiday. Want to see rain forest, volcanoes and go snorkeling. I am reasonably active and generally travel independently. Reasonable budget for the right trip. Any help with my decision making would be appreciated. Thinking of travelling November.

  1. costa rica and guatemala are dangerous country

  2. It's a goalless draw: Costa Rica 0 - Guatamala 0

  3. Been to Costa Rica this year -  I highly recommend it. No problem with safety. Guatemala has some interesting colonial buildings. Panama, also worth considering.

  4. Costa Rica.

  5. Well you could come to Honduras. You will find rain forest in La Ceiba Pico Bonito National Park tallest mountain in Honduras.which is about 20 min by plane from Roatan. The only thing is that we do not have volcanoes but you will be able to snorkle in Roatan. Neither Guatemala or Costa Rica can offer you the coral reefs Roatan have. You can fly in into San Pedro Sula and then decide or either take a bus or small plane to La Ceiba, 3 hours bus drive.

  6. In my opinion...both of them...They are two wonderful Latin counties...but...for two weeks...it's not enought to see both...so I can suggest you to have a journey in Costa Rica: it's a beautiful country which organise woinderful trips in forests to see wild animals and nature...Than, is also organised snorkeling activities...but if you want to do the most beautiful snorkeling place, you may book a trip to Maldives or to my country: Sri Lanka!!

  7. I've never been to Guatemala but I live in Costa Rica...  I have a friend down here who has family in Guatemala and spent a good amount of his childhood there.  He told me that when they went out into the bigger towns they had to have body guards (who held guns) walk with them everywhere.

Costa Rica isn't exactly the safest place in the world but I don't need a body guard to walk me around San Jose (the capitol) though, I would only walk the streets with a man or a group of women if necessary.

If you are thinking of traveling in November, I am not sure about Guatemala but that is Costa Rica's wet season...  The last month anyway.  On the beach and in one of our active Volcanoes (Arenal) that means sunshine and hot weather in the early morning to heavy rain and thunder storms at night (which are so powerful and beautiful).

Costa Rica is a cheap vacation with plenty to see and do outdoors and in the night life.
