  1. You used to see more scorpions in houses years ago, for some reason you see less now, i guess it depends what part of CR your in but if you stay somewhere where they have a lot of scorpions then all you have to do is check your shoes everyday before putting them on because they hide in the shoes.

  2. seen but not stung

  3. I have not been stung, but my cousin was stung while we were in the mountains in Quepos.  It was not a nice sight to see.  His whole arm swelled up.  There are at least 13 known species.  I have included a link where you can go and check them out.  For any other Costa Rica information, go to the TicosLand.com website.

  4. Tico Roots answer is a good one. I will add, one of the reasons why you do not see scorpions like you used to, is because people fumigate more, but it’s not to say, they are not there. As a precaution, I always shake out my shoes before putting them on.

Back in April, my son was stung on the arm in Golfito at the hotel we were staying at. Needless to say, he was not a happy camper. His arm was numb for a good day, and of course the pain.

  5. I've never seen one and I've been there several times.

I guess there aren't any where people live,if you go to the forest then most likely yes.

  6. As far as I know there are 14 known scorpion species. I lived in this country and I never saw one, I guess they would br found in the forests, not where people live.

  7. Yes, in general the CR scorpion's sting is much less venomous than those found in the SW U.S. but it is still like a hornet's sting.
