Costa Rica and French Saint Martin played a match against each other on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 in Group A of the preliminary round of the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship. The tournament is currently being staged in Tijuana, Mexico where the matches
are being held at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento sports hall. When the match reached its close, Costa Rica had bagged itself a win by making a clean sweep over French Saint Martin in front of an audience of 75.
It took Costa Rica a total of one hour and eight minutes to make the match reach its close at the following final set scores: 25-9, 25-16 and 25-16.
The coach of the Costa Rican squad, Alberto Travieso, shared his views on the win by making the following comments, “We improved in our rhythm and also had a tactical improvement. I am very happy seeing French Saint Martin playing here integrated to Norceca,
that’s the way Costa Rica started to play, and hard work will be key for them to increase their level.”
On the other hand, the captain of the Costa Rican side Andres Araya expressed his views by giving the following statements, “We faced a team with very talented young players with a lot of potential, and we had to make some adjustments and to correct the
mistakes we made in our first match.”
The player who was able to top all scorers on both sides by registering the most points was Luis Diego Abarga of Costa Rica as he tallied a score of 13. On the other hand, the highest number of points on the French Saint Martin squad was put up by Kareem
Brooks by tallying a score of eight.
The opening set of the match saw the Costa Ricans take the lead early on and storm ahead with the advantage. French Saint Martin could not do much except trail behind as the Costa Ricans kept on charging ahead with speed towards the end of the frame that
they easily bagged at 25-9.
French Saint Martin rallied together in the second set and stayed level with their opponents for some time but they could not match the skill of Costa Rica and eventually were left behind as Costa Rica took the advantage and stretched it. The efforts of
French Saint Martin were not enough to stop Costa Rica from bagging another comfortable win at 25-16.
The third set of the game followed much the same pattern as its predecessor as French Saint Martin tried to gain sway at the beginning of the set but failed to do so as Costa Rica grabbed the lead in no time and marched off towards an easy win at 25-16 with
the French Saint Martin squad trailing behind hopelessly.
