Question:

Costa Rica vacation: Is one week to short of time to see Manuel Antonio, Fortuna, and Manuel Antonio?

I'm going to Costa Rica for a week in March. I'm spending 2 nights in Manuel Antonio, 2 nights in Monteverde, and 3 nights in Fortuna (Arenal Volcano) - in that order. Everything's already booked. Is this too much ground to cover in about a week? If I had to cut one, which one would it be? I don't want to change plans, but now I'm a bit concerned about transportation eating up too much time. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. It will be a bit tight, as transportation can be quite slow in Costa Rica.... you dont want to spend your whole time driving. (Although driving can be a fun and interesting part of the trip.... some of me and my friends greatest memories are from driving)

If it is your first time there, dont change your plans.... the first trip to CR will be a c**p shoot anyway, you'll know what is the most fun for you next time.

  2. i would say NO, it is not enough time. costa rica is a very diverse country and transportation alone takes a longtime. if you're only going to those 3 places, maybe it's ok - it would be tight, but it's not unacceptable or anything. i would give AT LEAST 3 nights for each place, and not to mention, there are plenty of other wonderful places in costa rica to explore as well.

  4. You will most definitely spend many hours on the roads without a doubt. That is just a reality in beautiful Costa Rica. You get up EARLY (we rose at 4am without an alarm) & your are ready to retire by 9pm...it must be something to do with the proximty to the Equator...the country is amazing~ Beautiful CR holds many 'wonders' of the world. In all fairness to appreciate beautiful CR, one needs many many visits to truly enjoy the essence! Your trip will go very quickly with you leaving before you know it...but gauranteed your heart will be feeling the desire to return 'before' you manage to board your plane home~ You will probably be back, then you will have a better notion how to plan your 'time' you will certainly make the next visit longer! We traveld 18 days with four days & three nights spread as many places as we could go & that was NOT nearly enough time to see all we wanted to see, much less experience all that country has to offer. Each trip back we keep making the visit longer & each time we leave (not wanting to) still much waiting for us to experience remains. Take your trip as planned & you will understand 'why' I say this trip it doesn't matter if you changed anything, you will still need more time to venture that beautiful country! Hope you enjoy your experience because that is INDEED what it will be! An experience like no other~ gauranteed! Pura~Vida!
