You should be vary careful when trying that sort of stuff in CR. a) It is legal for an adult to have s*x for money, but it is not legal for you to pay, so if the cops found out, you'd go to jail, not the prostitutes.

b) The law in CR is "guilty until proven innocent", so people are put in jail until the DA can build a case against them (known as preventive prison). This is done just in case the perpetrators try to escape. Some have been in jail for years without any formal charges.

c) There is absolutely nothing any embassy can do to help you if you are robbed or put in jail in CR

d) most adult tours hire prostitutes who beat up or dose the clients in order to steal their money, cards and belongings (refer to point C above)

I seriously hope that you are not inquiring about the less savory things that go on in CR. When I was down there in 2006, the CR government was working hard to stamp that stuff out.

Fortunately, though, Costa Rica is one of the best whitewater rafting destinations in the world. I went out with the outfitting company listed below and had a blast. Truly professional treatment all around and they went the extra mile to make my vacation great.

Their overnight at the lodge on the river is amazing, great accommodations and food, yet still rustic and natural. They also throw in a free zipline tour with that trip.

The surfing on the Pacific Coast is outstanding, too.

It would depend on your budget.  There are a lot of travel options and a lot of things to do and see.
