Cottage Witness vying to win Hunters’ Chase
Cottage Witness is vying to clinch first position in the Dunraven Bowl Novices’ Hunters’ Chase (For Dunraven Windows South And West Wales PTP Championship), a high-stakes race that will be held at Chepstow track on Friday, April 27.
In the pursuit of breaking his maiden, the J. Ponting-trained bay gelding will compete against 11 rivals such as Books Review, Diddle ‘Em, Direct Line, Duc De Normandie, Findlay’s Find, Get Off The Table, Interpleader, Moscowbarney, No More Whispers, Superman
De La Rue and Little Miss Monty.
The Class 5 contest over a distance of 3 miles is scheduled to start at 7:35 (GMT). A prize cheque of £2,184 is ready for the supposed winner.
Cottage Witness started his career in April 2011. Unfortunately, he pulled up in each of his first two races. After finishing 6th in the third outing, he failed badly in the fourth one.
The novice runner again pulled up in a tough competition on January 1, 2012. Finally, he stunned all by bagging a runner-up rank against 14 rivals in his last outing on February 5. This was the point where he gained immense confidence and courage.
Now, it is hoped that the P. Ponting-owned horse will break his maiden in the Hunters’ Chase but he is likely to face some arduous challenges in his way towards victory.
Two of Cottage Witness’ competitors named as Findlay’s Find and Duc De Normandie look to be strong enough and they can give tough time to the rookie sprinter.
Findlay’s Find also finished second in his last start on March 22, 2012. The Mrs Myfanwy Miles-trained young gelding staged his debut in May 2011 and unseated his jockey badly in his first two races. At the moment, he is carrying a lot of confidence.
On the other hand, Duc De Normandie has one triumph to his name. Miss R. P. Leyshon’s veteran gelding broke his maiden on January 29, 2011. He last ran on May 6. He is likely to do well on his comeback.
The race is likely to be thrilling enough and Cottage Witness will have to apply an audacious and meticulous strategy in order to thrive against the big adversaries. Good luck to all the runners.
