Cotto: I'm ready for anything Floyd brings me – Boxing News
Just hours away from his mega-bout against Floyd Mayweather, Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto is not intimidated by Floyd’s persona. Mayweather is an unbeaten American fighter and he is the favourite for this fight. Analysts have already rated Cotto as 1 is to
8 underdog, yet Cotto insists he will end Mayweather’s undefeated streak.
In their pre-fight press conference, both fighters opened up. Miguel Cotto did not have much to say about Floyd, so he compared Mayweather’s situation with his own. Cotto said, “I don't need anyone else giving me a chance. If I can trust in myself, I don't
need anyone else believing in me. Nobody is invincible in life. I know that because I pass through this point in my life. I'm ready for anything Floyd brings me. The question is, is Floyd ready for anything Miguel can bring to him?”
On the other hand, instead of answering questions regarding his fight against Cotto, Mayweather was found answering questions regarding his possible bout with Filipino WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. When asked if he is afraid to face Manny Pacquiao,
Floyd said, “Writers are saying, Floyd is scared. No, Floyd cares about his family. Floyd is smart. At the end of the day, Floyd is smart. My health is important. My health is more important than money. They can take all the money and my health is more important.”
Floyd Mayweather has probably become the most criticising person when it comes to Manny Pacquiao. From racism comments to allegations of using steroids, Mayweather has done everything against Pacquiao. On the other hand, the Filipino has kept his cool saying
‘God will show him the light.’
For now, Mayweather and Cotto both looked super ready for their mega-bout. Floyd weighed in at 151 whereas Cotto weighed in at 154. Cotto currently holds 3 lbs advantage over Mayweather. If Cotto is able to defeat Mayweather, he will be the first boxer to
bring a dent to Mayweather’s career.
However, Mayweather, as always, is pretty confident that Cotto cannot beat him, even though he admits Cotto can be tough in the ring.
