Cotto fans lookin over margarito to mayweather?

All i can hear after cotto had a great performance over a b level fighter is that he is the best and woud beat floyd. But antonio margarito has the best chin and could take any shot that cotto puts out, margarito is 5 foot 11 and towers over miguel cotto, he is a guy who throws at least 100 punches around takes you best shot and lands his own. Honesly i give margarito a great chance in winning this fight, the only reason i want cotto to win is b/c i think that if margarito wins then floyd will avoid him like he did before. Cotto is a star but margaraito is a tough and rugged fighter.

  1. Let put it down. Clottey almost beat Margarito with a injured hand and it was still a close decision. PbF would work circles around Margarito and everyone will be mad because he didn't sit there and brawl. Its nothing wrong with brawling but not smart fighting. Who ever win out of Margarito and Cotto, will lose to PBF if he's next. Coming off a hard fight and try to beat one of the best boxing of our time, please. When Cotto/Margarito beat a F/C class fighter this Sat. Everyone is saying, he will beat PBF, see I told you, he will beat him. Pull your pans back up and don't get to happy. Who was Gomez, and Cintron. That's how fans get disappointed. PBF is going to beat the winer, Cotto or Margarito and everyone is going to be like, what happen.

  2. It does'nt matter because Mayweather would scientifically dissect them in the ring. And kick both they're asses!

  3. Margarito had  a great performance against an A level fighter in Cintron, and I don't think anyone can over look Antonio Margarito, he has as much claim to elite status in the welter weight division as either Cotto or Clottey.  Even Quintana and Williams have more creditability at welter weight than Mayweather.  At 140 and below Floyd Mayweather was boxing's P4P best, but at 147 and above, Floyd is at best mediocre.

Honestly, I think Cotto/Margarito is a huge fight, much more ligitimate than any welter weight match up envolving Mayweather.  Floyd is old news, and I for one am sick of hearing how much money Floyd think's he should be paid to box.  Boxing doesn't need Floyd Mayweather.  If I was Cotto or Margarito, I would make Mayweather fight Clottey, Quintana or Williams before even considering GIVING FLOYD a fight.

Margarito is a much more dangerous opponent than Mayweather for Cotto, it will be a classicly great fight along the lines of the Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Duran era.  I can't wait for this one.  The winner of Cotto/Margarito will be the true welterweight champion of the world, no matter what the alphabet soup sanctioning bodies say.

  4. Blogbaba, I have a lot of respect for you but I completely disagree with you on this subject.  First of all, Kermit Cintron is not an A grade fighter in this era nor in any other.  Second of all, to think that Carlos Quintana or Paul Williams have more credibility at welterweight than Floyd borders on absurd.

If you dont like Mayweather thats fine but dont deny him the credit he has earned by beating the best fighters in boxing over the last 11 years or so.  How many champions has he beaten starting at 130 and then eventually at 147 and 154 (De La Hoya).  Beating De La Hoya, Baldomir, Mitchell, Judah, Hatton is not an easy task for any fighter.

I agree that he may not have the most crowd pleasing style sometimes but over the years he has scored some sensational knockouts (Mitchell, Corrales, Gatti, Hatton) and his skills are umatched.  Like it or not, he is the best and Cotto and Margarito should fight each other because they both deserve the payday but regardless of who wins that one, the unlucky one that chooses or ends up fighting Mayweather will lose.  Then it's back to the drawing board for whoever that ends up being.  Until then why is it so terrible for a guy to want to make as much money as he possible can?  Isnt professional boxing a business as well as a sport?  He will get to those younger guys eventually but if De La Hoya and Hatton want another beating I believe they also have worked hard enough over the years to earn that payday. It seems in professional sports anytime an athlete takes a better offer for more money and less risk or better chance at a championship they are shunned.  Why is that?  When the day comes that Mayweather fights Cotto or Margarito by the time that fight is over they may be glad for the payday but they wont be glad for the beating.

  5. i agree but  this is what i think, cotto  has not loss  he has beaten everyone that they put in front of him ,margarito has lost 5 bouts . He lost to the punisher and never got back at his loss, cotto is the top dog in the class .pbf  cant go 12 rounds with this type of fighter, cotto is a true body puncher/boxer with lightning speed and power that can break bones!pbf likes to lift up his left shoulder up high  along with the right hand to cover his face when he is in the corners or on the ropes he cant do that to cotto. cotto would beat the air out of pbf body and he would do it to margarito cause head shots with him dont work, cotto would have to box margarito and he will and thats how he will beat him! floyd first margarito next then greatness!

  6. The answer above me is exactly what is wrong with this forum. Some jackass who knows **** about boxing is givin a top contibutor status because he caters his answers to the persons question.  "Floyd is mediocre at best in the welterweight division and THEY should make him fight Clottey?" Thats hillarious man.  No wonder people are making clones of your account and acting like morons.

  7. Margarito doesn't use his height to his advantages, he fights inside so height is not gonna be a major factor, they are both offensive fighters that can take punches and give punches...i agree that cotto is a good body puncher but in margaritos last fight he had a great body defense..so this should be a great match that could definitely end up in a KO....

  8. You are right; this is an extremely dangerous fight for both men and its very hard to pick a winner.  Cotto has shown good improvement with his all around boxing skills in his past two fights, but I don't know if that will be enough to negate Margarito's relentless pressure.  Cotto can be a pressure fighter as well when he wants to, but I think that if he tries to go in the trenches with Margarito, he will get blown out of there.  The reason is because Margarito has shown that he can take it- he walked throught all of Kermit Cintron's punches like they were nothing and remember that Cintron has really good power and almost all of his wins have come by knockout.  Cotto on the other hand was rocked by Demarcus Corley and was down against Ricardo Torres; Margarito is a way bigger puncher than either of those two.  It should be a great fight and I can't wait to see it. The winner of this fight will be the true number one contender to Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s crown and I hope that Floyd does not duck the winner because that would just be a shame to all of boxing.  I also kind of want Cotto to win, mainly because I really want to see Floyd fight Cotto.  If Margarito wins, then Floyd should fight him, because by that time, Margarito will be a much bigger name and if he beats Cotto, there will be no logical reason as to why Floyd shouldn't fight him.  The same is true if Cotto wins- basically, the winner of that fight deserves to fight Floyd.  Here is a video of Mayweather saying to Margarito's face that they will eventually fight when he becomes a bigger name: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbyQsaigx...

Blogbaba- Why do you keep saying that Floyd is not the true welterweight champion?  No one cares about all these paper belts that everyone else has- Floyd has the only belt that matters- The Ring Magazine and lineal championship.  Championship linearity is of the utmost importance today when these crooked sanctioning bodies strip their fighters of belts like they were band-aids.  When Carlos Baldomir beat Zab Judah, everyone recognized Baldomir as the true champ.  After Floyd took care of business against Zab, he shut out Baldomir and he inherited the true championship of the world.  He has not lost it yet and you CANNOT be stripped of the lineal title- the only way you can lose it is by losing it in the ring, retiring, or moving to another weight division permanently.  Thats the way it used to be and thats the way it should be.  Cotto and Margarito have belts, but they are not the true champion, Floyd is, whether people like it or not.  I agree that the winner of Margarito-Cotto should get their deserved shot at Floyd, but just because he has not fought one of those guys yet does not mean he will, and it does not mean that you shuould knock him for his accomplishments.  He is the best pound for pound fighter for a reason and like it or not, he is the genuine welterweight champ.  No matter what he does or who he beats, there will always be excuses as to why the other guy lost instead of legitimate reasons as to why Floyd won.

  9. no i doubt cotto fans are looking past margo, i kjnow for sure cotto aint . margo gives anybody i mean anybody their toughest fight in their pro career.

and bout clottey and his hand. clottey made sure everbody know his hand was the problem. ive seen a couple of clotteys fight and he usually really slows down in the second half of the fight. even with  healthy hands i still think margo would beat clottey. also people dont kjnow that margo came in with a sprain anckle and an injured wrist. thats why he fought as crappy as he did but he never gave up.

  10. If Miguel Cotto is overlooking Antonio Margarito, then it will be a huge mistake on Cotto's part. Though, Cintron and Cotto are at tow different levels of caliber, it doesn't change the fact that Cintron is a hard puncher and Margarito take his punches very well, while coming forward. Usually, I'm use to seeing Cotto coming forward and being in control against those who are very respectful of his power. I don't think Margarito is going to back away, which would take away any control that Cotto may hope for. Cotto's opinions would then be to slug it out, back peddle or fight on the ropes, which would be a bad idea against a high volume puncher like Margarito, who also is much taller. Also, I just don't think that Cotto is at his best when he is backing up or against the ropes, regardless of who he is fighting. Anyway, it could be an even uglier night for Miguel, if Margarito can take Cotto's power just as well as he did Cintron.

Cotto can get by Margarito, but he surely don't need to overlook and take Antonio lightly at all. This will be a fight in which Cotto may need to outsmart Margarito.

  11. The Cotto fans looking past Margarito is o.k as long as Cotto is focused on Margarito which you would think is possible if he can take Gomez serious and although Margarito towers over Cotto, Cotto is a body puncher that has ability to get under him unlike Cintron and is a lot more fluid the golden johnson and cintron compare there footwork in past fight, another thing is as far as ive seen from Margarito he doesnt use his height as a fighter but it should be a good one. I'd like to see how Cottos boxing skills against Gomez work with Margarito.

  12. Everyone that is a BOXING fan, (not a particular figther's fan) knows that Mayweather is "docking" both Cotto and Margarito. I'm sorry but so far Mayweather has shown that he can beat up some old guys, he hasnt shown me that he could beat a skilled and hungry fighter like either Cotto or Margarito are. I dont particularily think that Mayweather's feet will be too effective against either or, since these these guys have radars that aid them in locating another fighter's weak spots.

I feel that a Cotto/Margarito fight will be better than an Mayweather/either or fight. There's more action going on there and alot more excitement to be had with those fighters than Floyd.

In conclusion, after this weekend's fights. I felt that the Margarito fight was a more evenly matched (if you could say that!) than the Cotto fight. I mean, who are the people that sanctioned such a massacre? that poor kid didnt stand a chance against Cotto and Cotto knew it. I guess the big guys in boxing wanted to give Cotto another "sure" knock-out under his belt before they sanction the next big fight. "COTTO/MARGARITO all the way!"

    From a boxing fan...
