  1. Props to Boggy.  They really succinctly provided all the information you requested.

In my opinion, there's not much more to add except specifics if you even care.  Egyptian cotton is indeed one of the best b/c its uniquely long staple make it perfect for towels: Highly absorbent and super soft.  They also produce less lint than other cotton fibers.  Organic cotton only refers to how its grown and has no real baring on a towels' softness or effectiveness.

I'm not overly green with linens, but I have a few bamboo towels -- which renews quickly and are grown without use of pesticides. They dry really fast and are also quite soft.

  2. Egyptian cotton is generally acknowledged as the best.  Obviously that will be a matter of opinion but it is of good quality.  Organic cotton is what it says, organic, if you are into all things green then that is what you would buy.  Being organic will not make it finer or more hard wearing it will just mean it had no chemical fertilisers or sprays used while it was growing.  I have Egyptian cotton towels and they are very nice, my husband has an organic teeshirt which is nice also.  The reason these items were purchased was that they were good value for money (being in the sales!!!).
